Infrastructure and history
The first known development in the area of the district came from the 14th century, when a guard tower was built above the confluence of the Haune in the Fulda , near the strategically important stone bridges over these two rivers . The field name “An der Warth” was transferred to the street name in the 1930s when a Wehrmacht barracks was built here below the Petersberg . The growing textile industry provided the barracks with the first workers' houses. After the Second World War , the US Army took over the military site under the name McPheeters Barracks . The district did not emerge until the 1950s within the boundaries of the city of Bad Hersfeld, when additional living space was needed for refugees .
The American forces withdrew in 1993. Since then, parts of the barracks have housed the Bad Hersfeld customs office . Other houses of the former barracks are used for schools (e.g. for the adult education center ). The greater part has become an industrial area .
The district has two modern churches . The Protestant Church of the Resurrection was consecrated on November 4, 1956, the Catholic St. Bonifatius Church followed in the 1960s.
