Tjelvar's grave
The ship setting Tjelvars Grab (Swedish: Tjelvars grav ) is located on a small side road about 1.3 km west of Länsväg 146, on the Swedish island of Gotland near Tjälder, south of Boge .
It is located in an area with further prehistoric and early historical evidence, which consists of two Iron Age fortresses, a small burial ground and individual stone settings . The Röse Majsterrojr is also about one kilometer south .
The setting of ships, like other ships of this type on Gotland, is dated to the younger Bronze Age.
description
The ship, made of heavy compact stones, is 18 m long and 5 m wide. The stern stones are a good one meter high, while the height of the railing stones decreases towards the center of the ship. The interior of the ship was raised by a field stone filling, which in a sense forms the deck.
The facility was examined and restored in 1938. In the eastern part of the ship, a small, looted coffin made of rock slabs was found during the excavation, which contained burned bones and some ceramic shards .
Legend
According to legend , Tjelvar, the first resident of the island, mentioned in the Gutasaga , lived on Tjelder's farm and was buried in the ship's settlement.
