Toddington Castle
Toddington Castle , also Conger Hill Motte is an Outbound castle in the village of Toddington in the English county of Bedfordshire .
Details
Toddington Castle was a moth built first of wood and later of stone. The first, wooden version was made before the 13th century when it was listed as a fortress by Sir Paulinus Pegure ( Paul Pever ). In records from 1597 the castle is referred to as "Toddington Conger Hill", probably because of its use as a hunting ground for rabbits in the 16th century.
The site is now considered a Scheduled Monument , classified as a medieval moth. Today only earthworks remain.
