A death threat (or death threat ) is understood to mean the threat that the death of a living being will be caused, usually this happens to another person. In contrast to the mere warning of death , the threatening person ascribes an influence on the occurrence of death.

Threatening the death of a person in order to induce a person to act , tolerate or omit , is a coercion according to German criminal law , even if the death of a stranger is threatened. In addition, death threats sometimes occur in the case of robbery , extortion , extortionate kidnapping and hostage-taking . If the threat is carried out, criminal liability for attempted or completed , intentional homicide , such as murder or manslaughter , is possible.
