Colored toilet seat

A toilet seat , commercially available toilet seat , colloquially toilet , toilet or toilet seat called, is a mostly fold-up seat for the toilet in the shape of a ring is broken in some models on the front for hygienic and practical reasons. Toilet seats are usually made of plastic or painted wood , as these materials are skin-friendly, washable and sufficiently stable. Other materials such as metal are rarely used.

function

The purpose of a toilet seat is to avoid direct skin contact with the ceramic of the toilet bowl, which is perceived as uncomfortably cold, and to make the seat suitable for different buttocks sizes.

hygiene

With their smooth, dry surface, toilet seats are a poor breeding ground for germs . Therefore, according to prevailing medical opinion, the use of antibacterial bathroom cleaners for the toilet seat is not necessary. They do not use and would only lead to an unwanted resistance of the germs.

With click or quick-release hinges, a toilet seat can be easily removed from the toilet, cleaned and reattached. This means that toilet seats can be completely removed each time they are cleaned.

In public toilets there are sometimes protective foils or protective papers in the form of toilet seats, in order to cover them once for hygienic reasons.

Executions

Toilet seats are usually delivered as a functional unit with a toilet lid to close the toilet. A large number of toilet seats and lids are available in different colors or designs. Models in (“sanitary”) white are widespread. There are monochrome models in so-called sanitary colors, which harmonize with the corresponding colors of other sanitary objects in a room, through to a colorful, sometimes "artistic" design (see picture) or transparent, partly transparently colored plastic with enclosed design objects such as shells, stones or also barbed wire.

Although most toilet seats can be fitted to any common toilet , there is no standard for the hinges . Stainless steel hinges are robust, stable and durable. There are toilet seats and lids in different sizes that can be adapted to different toilet models, versions with integrated attachments for children, seats with soft close and so-called hygiene seats with a PE tubular film that is renewed after each use , as well as raised models for senior citizens and the disabled.

Newer toilet seats also offer odor extraction. The fecal gases are extracted directly from the seat and adsorbed in activated carbon filters . In East Asia, heated and self-cleaning models are known. In many Japanese toilets , the simple toilet seat has been replaced by the Washlet .
