Tomba del Fiore di Loto
The Tomba del Fiore di Loto ( Tomb of the Lotus Flower ) is the modern name of a painted Etruscan tomb in Tarquinia that was discovered in 1962. The grave dates to the middle of the sixth century BC. Chr.
It has a staircase, an anteroom and the actual painted burial chamber, which was found robbed. The burial chamber has a gable ceiling. Painting the chamber is easy. In the middle of the ceiling there is a wide red stripe. The rest of the ceiling is decorated with flowers. Only the gable panels on the short sides of the chamber show figurative representations. In the middle there are painted supporting pillars, the upper part of which ends in volutes. In the center is a lotus flower painted on the head, which gave the tomb its name. There are big cats on the left and right. The actual walls, on the other hand, are unpainted and are only limited by colored bands in the upper area.
