Tommy Duchesne

Thomas "Tommy" Duchesne (born May 8, 1909 in Val-Jalbert , † April 5, 1986 in Montreal ) was a Canadian accordionist.

Life

Duchesne took accordion and violin lessons in his childhood. He came to Montreal in 1930 and worked there as a musician and actor at the Théâtre National . He also studied music with Rodolphe Plamondon and took accordion lessons with Lucien Bickley . He then found a job in the music store JA Turcot and made his debut in the program Mus-ke-gee on the radio station CKAC. In 1935 he founded Les Chevaliers du folklore with the fiddler Albert Allard and the guitarist Tony Ouellette .

From 1934 he recorded numerous titles with the Starr label, including hits such as Valse Denise , Breakdown de Beauceville , Reel de Tommy and Reel de Sainte-Anne . At the CKAC he performed a. a. in the series Tommy Duchesne et ses Chevaliers , hosted by Paul Dupuis , with singer Fernand Perron and caller Oscar Morin .

During the Second World War, Duchesne toured with his group through military bases in Canada. In 1947 he had the program Tommy Duchesne on the broadcaster CKVL . He and his group, now expanded to include Denise Émond and her sisters, were particularly popular in rural Canada.

In the early 1950s, Duchesne was on the Swing la baquaise team , and in 1957 he and his group performed every Saturday on CJMS's Samedi terroir . Between 1960 and 1962 he recorded for Rosaire Archambault's new record label Alouette , and further recordings were made with the Bonanza label until 1974 .
