Tommy Wiking

Tommy Wiking (* 1968 / 1969 in Gothenburg , Sweden ) is a Swedish football official. He is currently President of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), the world association for the sport of American football .

Career

After he saw the American Bowl friendship game of the National Football League on August 14, 1988 in Gothenburg ( Minnesota Vikings - Chicago Bears 28:21), he got enthusiastic about the sport. He began building a football team at his college. In 2000 he was elected President of the Swedish Association, Svenska Amerikansk Fotbollförbundet (SAFF). After the previous president of the IFAF, Frederic Paquet , resigned, Wiking became president of the world association in July 2006. For Sweden, he was able to obtain the hosting rights for the American Football World Cup in Stockholm in 2015 . However, the organization of the World Cup was criticized as unrealistic and ended with a cancellation at the end of 2014. Wiking himself said that he was surprised by the cancellation and had only recently been informed about problems by the organizing committee. At the same time, the Swedish public prosecutor was investigating embezzlement against Wiking. Shortly afterwards, he was released from duty for health reasons. On April 30, 2015, a statement was circulated on the IFAF website that Wiking had resigned. This turned out to be wrong, Wiking spoke of an attempted coup by a small group.

Wiking is a supporter of the NFL team Los Angeles Chargers .
