tomsrtbt (pronounced: Tom's Root Boot) is a very small Linux distribution . It is short for “Tom's Floppy, which contains a root file system and is bootable ”. The author advertises it as "Most GNU / Linux on one floppy disk"; it contains many common Linux commands for system recovery (Linux and other operating systems ) and creating hard drive-free Linux computers . It also provides drivers for various hardware and network functionality.
use
The distribution can be created from within Microsoft Windows or Linux by formatting a standard 1.44MB high density floppy disk ( 1.72MB ) and writing the image to the floppy disk. It is able to read and write to file systems of many operating systems including ext2 (used in Linux), FAT (used in MS-DOS and some versions of Windows), NTFS (used in Windows NT , 2000 , and XP ), and Minix (used in the Minix operating system).
The finished disk can then be used as a rescue or analysis disk. The hardware configuration of a computer can be listed or the computer's data can be accessed.
history
The last version of tomsrtbt appeared in May 2002. It has not been developed any further since then. There are some successors, many also on CD, as the CD drive has largely replaced the floppy disk drive. In the years before 2002 tomsrtbt enjoyed a very high level of awareness.
