Tongans

The inhabitants of Tonga are referred to as Tongans in Germany . They speak Tongan and are among the oldest peoples in Polynesia .

The Tongans have been in the centuries before the Christian era in the Tonga - Archipelago settled. In the past, the Tongans maintained a powerful war fleet, which consisted of large double-hulled boats with a crew of up to a hundred and served for defense and conquest purposes. With this, around 600 AD, Samoa , one thousand kilometers away, was conquered and held tribute for around four hundred years. Other islands were also subjugated, so that the Tongans had temporarily built a real empire .
