Toni's Zoo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Toni's Zoo is an animal park in the Holzhüsern (Bertiswil) district of Rothenburg in the canton of Lucerne .

It was founded in 1995 by Toni Röösli. 480 animals from 96 species are kept on a total area of 20,000 m². They cover a broad spectrum: there are many reptiles and birds , but also mammals from various genera. Some of the animals are housed in a walk-in tropical house. The attractions include two tame cheetahs that eat out of their owner's hand. But it is precisely this animal park's figurehead that has often been criticized by animal rights activists in the past. On the basis of an inspection in 2010, they complained that the wildcat enclosures were too small and that the keeping was not appropriate to the species. In the meantime, adjustments have been made in this regard.

Toni's Zoo is the second largest zoo in Central Switzerland after the Goldau nature and animal park .
