Clay model
A clay model is an image of a three-dimensional object in clay that is produced for the following purposes:
- Sketch / draft
- A clay model as a draft, the bozzetto , is usually only worked out very roughly and on a reduced scale of the future object . The bozzetto is only used to work out a rough shape for a later work . For example, a sculptor often creates several sketches in clay, which then serve as templates for the sculpture to be created later .
- Visualization
- In product design , clay models are produced during the design phase to visualize the later product . Clay models are particularly suitable for visualization, as changes to the design can be reproduced very quickly on the model. In the automotive industry in particular , clay models are produced both on a reduced scale and on a 1: 1 scale. The visualization using a clay model is increasingly being replaced by specialized computer programs.
- Mold making , art casting
- In mold making, scale and detailed clay models are produced. The clay model is used to produce the mold (negative), which is then used for the casts in a new material. Clay models are especially created by sculptors. The art caster creates a shape from the model, which is used to copy the sculpture in a new material (usually bronze).
- Cult item
- like the clay car models that z. B. in grave 177 in the Hungarian Budakalász - Luppa csárda (Pest county) were found.
