Barrel jumping

Barrel jumper

Barrel jumping is an athletic obstacle course .

In a race over 400 meters, the competitors must jump through barrels that are set up at a distance of 50 meters. The barrels with the top and bottom removed hang about waist-high on ropes so that the resulting tube points horizontally in the direction of the runway. The runner jumps through the barrel head first, rolls on the landing and then continues his run.

In Germany and the Netherlands there are clubs that actively practice barrel jumping and - sometimes jokingly - campaigned for its reintroduction as an Olympic sport.
