Tonsor

Tonsor was the name for a hairdresser in the Roman Empire . He was not only responsible for trimming the main hair, but also performed shaves and cut the client's nails. The female job title was called tonstrix . They worked in a tonstrina , a barber shop . It was common among the rich citizens of the Roman Empire for their slaves to include at least one tonsor.

The name for the monks ' typical bald shave , the tonsure , is derived from tonsura , 'the shearing, the shearing, the shearing' .
