Tooting Bec (London Underground)
Tooting Bec is a London Underground station in the London Borough of Wandsworth . It is located in the Travelcard tariff zone 3 at the intersection of four main streets; Balham High Road in the northeast, Trinity Road in the northwest, Upper Tooting Road in the southwest and Tooting Bec Road in the southeast. In 2013, 6.90 million passengers used this station served by Northern Line trains.
The station opened on September 13, 1926 as part of the extension from Clapham Common to Morden . At the beginning it was called Trinity Road (Tooting Bec) , on October 1, 1950 it was given its current name.
Designed by Charles Holden , the station is a modernist style building made of Portland stone . The tiles on the platforms and in the access tunnels have been preserved in their original state. The building has been a listed building ( Grade II ) since 1987 . There is a small separate entrance building on the east side of the intersection, which is connected to the main station building by a pedestrian tunnel.
The Finnish rock band Hanoi Rocks released a track called "Tooting Bec Wrecked" on their 1983 album "Back to the Mystery City".
