The Torre die Graziani (also Torre dei Ceroni ) is a family tower in the Italian capital Rome .
history
The tower was built in the 12th-13th centuries. Built in the 18th century for the famous Roman family Ceroni. The bricks used to build the tower came from the ruins of the nearby Trajan Baths . The Graziani family later became the owners of the tower and lived there until the 15th century. Today the tower is part of the building of the Figlie di Maria Santissima dell'Orto religious institute.
location
The tower is located in Piazza di San Martino ai Monti on Oppio Hill, which is part of the Esquiline , one of the seven hills of Rome . On the square is the Torre dei Capocci , another, higher family tower, which was also built on the 12th-13th centuries. Century is dated. In contrast to the Torre dei Capocci, the Torre dei Graziani is not free-standing, but integrated into an adjacent building.
construction
The tower has a basement, a ground floor and five floors. There is a small watchtower on the roof terrace. There are six battlements on the long side and five on the shorter one. The facade facing the square no longer has any windows, but fillings in the wall indicate its earlier existence.
