The Tourotel Mariahilf (formerly Hotel Holzwarth , then Hotel Stieglbräu ) on Mariahilfer Strasse is now the oldest hotel in Vienna's 15th district, Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus .

history

In the middle of the 19th century, Josef Holzwarth (1814-1892), who had previously run the beer hall of the Fünfhauser brewery of Johann Franz Dengler (1781-1862), set up his own business in Fünfhaus on what was left of the Karmeliterhof, in the 18th century The former Nentwichhof called the inn "Zum Karmeliterhof", which became the Hotel Holzwarth in the second half of the 19th century.

Under his nephew and successor Hermann Holzwarth (1851–1916) the building was rebuilt and expanded around 1894/1895. On the forecourt on Mariahilfer Strasse at that time, a monumental street wing was placed in front of the previous structure, the multi-axis facade of which was rhythmically structured and decorated in a baroque style with giant half-columns, giant pilasters, balconies and roof structures. The renovation and expansion resulted in a large residential complex with a hotel and business premises that has been preserved to this day, although it was renovated several times over the next 100 years.

In the first third of the 20th century, the hotel was first leased to Alois Reinwein (1859–1938), then to the coffee teller Anton Zohner (1862–1934) and finally to Vinzenz (1866–1932) and Julie Küster (died around 1939) .

From around 1937 to 1957, the Hotel Holzwarth and, subsequently, the property from the Stiegl Brewery were gradually bought from Hermann Holzwarth's heirs. Around 1957 the name Holzwarth was finally given up. In April 1994, the Stiegl Brewery sold what was now the Hotel Stieglbräu to Wienerwald Restaurant GmbH, to which the Tourotel hotel chain also belonged at the time. In 2001 the hotel was taken over by Tourotel Hotelbetriebs GmbH, with the restaurant integrated into the hotel remaining in the possession of Wienerwald Restaurant GmbH until 2009.
