The Towada Art Center ( English ; Japanese 十 和田 市 現代 美術館 , Towada-shi Gendai Bijutsukan , about "Museum for Contemporary Art of the City of Towada") is an art museum opened in 2008 in Towada in Aomori, northern Japan . The center was founded as part of the Arts Towada Project (English for Arts Towada kakaku , Arts Towada 計画 , a Machizukuri plan for the administrative center of the city), which was set up to help the city, which is severely affected by population decline and unemployment is affected by reviving art.

The Towada Art Center houses a permanent collection of 38 commissioned works, all of which were created exclusively for the Towada Art Center by 33 international artists: Ana Laura Aláez, Changkyum Kim, Choi Jeong Hwa, Do Ho Suh, Federico Herrero, Erika Hidaka, inges idee , Tetsuo Kondo , Takashi Kuribayashi, Yayoi Kusama , Michael Lin, Jianhua Liu, Maider López, Shin Morikita, MOUNT FUJI ARCHITECTS STUDIO, Ron Mueck , Yoshitomo Nara, Marieleuma Neudecker , Yoko Ono , Hans Op de Beeck , Jaume Plensa., Layla Plensa Rashid, R & Sie (n), Børre Sæthre, Tomas Saraceno , Jennifer Steinkamp, Erwin Wurm , Shuji Yamamoto and Mitsuhiro Yamagiwa.

The architectural concept developed by Ryue Nishizawa aims to transform the entire district into an art museum by combining an exhibition center and large-scale artistic installations in public spaces. The scattering of the transparent, pavilion-like parts of the building enables the indoor exhibition spaces and the outdoor art space to be intertwined.
