Tower of Terror II in Dreamworld ( Coomera , Queensland , Australia ) was a steel roller coaster model of the Reverse Freefall Coaster manufactured by Intamin , which opened on January 23, 1997 as the Tower of Terror . At the time of its opening, it was the highest roller coaster in the world at 115 m and the fastest roller coaster at 160 km / h. It was the model's first roller coaster and, along with Superman: Escape from Krypton in Six Flags Magic Mountain , which opened just a few weeks after the Tower of Terror, is the only one of the model so far.
On August 18, 2010, the runway was temporarily closed to be rebuilt. After opening in September, the car was now accelerated backwards and a 206 m long tunnel was built around the acceleration section .
At the back of the tower there is also the ride attraction The Giant Drop , which is a free fall tower made by Intamin .
On November 3, 2019, the railway was closed and is to be dismantled. The Giant Drop should not be affected and continue to exist.
The drive
The car was accelerated from 0 to 160 km / h within 7 seconds using LSM . Then the car drove up the 115 m high, 90 ° steep tower, but only reached a height of around 100 m. Then the car drove back down the tower again. The passengers experienced the feeling of weightlessness ( airtime ) for 6.5 seconds . The car had four rows of seats, each with space for four people.
