Toyota Argentina SA is an automobile manufacturer from Zárate ( Province of Buenos Aires ) in Argentina , which is wholly owned by the Japanese Toyota Motor Corporation .

history

The Toyota brand was already present in Argentina in the 1950s, but it did not experience its first successes until the late 1970s to the mid-1980s with the Celica and Hilux models .

Toyota Argentina , founded in 1994, began importing vehicles in 1995 and assembling vehicles in 1997.

More than $ 2 billion had been invested in the company by 2017. At the same time, the annual production capacity was increased from 10,000 to 140,000 vehicles, around 70% of which are destined for export to other Latin American countries.

The workforce, which initially consisted of 400 (or 750) employees, grew to 2,700 by 2007 and was more than 4,000 in 2011 and around 5,000 in 2015.

Models
