Zárate is a city in eastern Argentina , in the northern province of Buenos Aires . The city is located on the Río Paraná and has 101,271 inhabitants (as of 2001, INDEC ).

Zárate forms an agglomeration with the neighboring town of Campana , located six kilometers to the south, and the towns are connected by a joint industrial park. Together both cities have 164,524 inhabitants.

Zárate is primarily a seat of heavy industry, but is also visited by tourists, especially from Buenos Aires , because of its location on the river . The Toyota Argentina plant has been based in Zárate since 1994 .

In Zárate there is the southernmost bridge over the Río Paraná, the Complejo Zárate - Brazo Largo , which is also the shortest connection between Buenos Aires and Montevideo in Uruguay.
