The Tozawa ( Japanese 戸 沢 氏 , Tozawa-shi ) were a family of the Japanese sword nobility ( Buke ), which was derived from Taira no Tadamasa . With an income of 68,000 Koku , the Tozawa residing in Shinjō ( Yamagata Prefecture ) belonged to the medium-sized daimyō of the Edo period .

genealogy

  • Moriyasu ( 盛安 ; 1566-1590) was, like his ancestors, vassal of the Nambu and as administrator of the castle of Kaku-no-date ( 角 館 ) in the province of Dewa .
  • Masamori ( 正盛 ; 1585-1648), Moriyasu's son, joined Tokugawa Ieyasu , received two districts in Hitachi Province and resided in Matsuoka with 40,000 Koku. In 1622 he was transferred to Shinjō Castle with 68,000 koku. He and his descendants resided there until 1868. After that, the family carried the title Vice Count .
