Tracer measurement

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With tracer gas measurement (also known as trace gas measurement or indicator gas measurement), the room air or an air stream is enriched with a small amount of tracer gas. As a result of the dilution of this gas , the effective volume flow in the room or a leakage volume flow can be calculated by measuring the drop in concentration.

The diverse application possibilities of this measurement method allow, among other things, the measurement of the efficiency of a ventilation system. The indicator gas method for determining the air change in buildings is described in detail in DIN EN ISO 12569. Thanks to highly sensitive gas analyzers, only the smallest amounts of gas that have no physiological effect on humans are used as tracer gases today.
