Carrier

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Tragreff ( also called Tragrefli in Switzerland ) describes a back carrier that is used on the alpine pastures by the dairymen and mountain farmers and that is carried on straps on the back to transport objects. It used to be made in Switzerland by the historical white cooper . The word composition of the term Tragreff, Tragrefli is derived from “carry” and “reffen” (tie up, pack up, bundle), “refli” is the diminutive in Swiss German .

A carrying rack essentially consists of a horizontal carrying board, which is attached to an upward vertical, artistically decorated board made of light maple or spruce wood , to which the hand-braided carrying straps are attached.

In Bavarian German it is also called Kraxe ; however, the designs differ.
