The baseball and softball club Traiskirchen Grasshoppers is an Austrian baseball and softball club that participates in the games of the Austrian Baseball Federation (ABF).

history

Since 1990 there were plans to found a baseball club in the region. The project was put into practice and in 1991 the baseball club Baden Grasshoppers took part in the Austrian championship in the 2nd Bundesliga.

In the 1992 season, the club was just about to move up to the top division in Austria. In the playoff, however, they lost to the skipjacks from Gänserndorf. In 1994 the club came in second for the second time. In the same year, the youth team, which had now been founded, managed to win the national championship.

In 1995 a second section was launched. Due to the great interest, a women's softball team was put together, which immediately took 3rd place in the second Austrian league. The men's team had to cope with the departure of a key player to Vienna and ended the season in 4th place in the table.

In the 1996 season, the men won the championship title in the 2nd Bundesliga East. In the promotion playoffs of the champions of the four 2nd Bundesliga, however, they only reached the third of four places and therefore remained in the 2nd Bundesliga East. The women's team narrowly missed the entry into the promotion playoff, but was able to fight for the runner-up title.

The men's team was able to celebrate promotion to the 1st Bundesliga (now called ABL) in 1998. The team only lost one game in the regular season. In the promotion playoff, the second place was achieved and thus the promotion was made. After relegation, he was runner-up in the 2nd Bundesliga (1999). In the first season in the first Bundesliga, the Grasshoppers had to come to terms with relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga.

In 2002 the club changed again. A game community was founded with the Vienna Darkstars, which is supposed to provide the inexperienced players of the Traiskirchen Grasshoppers with the necessary game practice. 2002 was the most successful year in the club's history. With the renewed championship title in the 2nd Bundesliga, which is now called the baseball league, and the victory in the Lower Austria Cup, the small double was achieved. In this and the beginning of the next season, 23 competitive games in a row (winning streak) were won.

After the 2006 season, the decision was made to play in the regional league in the future.

Ball park

In 1998 the Grasshoppers moved to their new, own playing field in Traiskirchen . The property has almost the original dimensions of an American baseball field. In the middle of the 1997 season the course was already playable and since 1998 the Hoppers-Field has had international maturity and approval. This enables the Grasshoppers to apply for European Cup games or even international championships.
