The Baseball League Austria ( BLA ) is the 1st baseball league in Austria .
Until 2012, the then Austria Baseball League (ABL) was played with eight teams. From the 2013 season, 6 teams were played. In the basic round, a simple round trip was played, with double headers (2 games in a row) being played, so each team played 20 games. The four best teams contested the state championship play-offs with semi-finals and finals in September, each of which was held as a best-of-seven series.
As of the 2017 season, the top division was expanded to 10 teams and divided into two divisions: OST with Stockerau Cubs, Diving Ducks, Vienna Metrostars, Vienna Wanderers and Traiskirchen Grasshoppers, WEST with Attnang-Puchheim Athletics, Dornbirn Indians, Feldkirch Cardinals, Hard Bulls and Kufstein Vikings.
In addition to a round-trip round within the divisions, each team also plays a double header against each team in the other division, the "interdivision" games. After the basic round, which provides 13 dates and thus 26 games for each team, the playoffs also follow in a new format: quarter-finals, semi-finals, final.
In the quarter-finals, the second placed in each division will meet the third placed in the other division and play a best-of-three series over one weekend. The winners of the two divisions only enter the playoffs in the semi-finals, where they meet the winners of the quarter-finals in a best-of-five series.
As before, the final will be held as a best-of-seven series.
Three regional leagues (East, Central, West) and the regional leagues of the six regional associations (Vorarlberg, Tyrol, Upper Austria, Styria, Lower Austria and Vienna) are now subordinate.
