Vienna home runners

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The WBV Homerunners is a baseball club founded on December 20, 1982 . The Homerunners were one of the first baseball clubs in Austria and helped found the Austrian Baseball Federation . Since the other baseball clubs that existed at that time no longer exist, the WBV Homerunners is the oldest baseball club in Austria.

In 1989 the first fixed baseball field was opened in the Vienna Prater, which is still used for the games of the junior teams, the 2nd and 3rd teams and the Vienna Mosquitoes.

As early as 1991, a second home runners team under the name Vienna Indians took part in regular league operations, followed in 1994 by a third team, the Vienna White Sox .

In spring 2002 the Homerunners merged with the Vienna Bulldogs . The Vienna Bulldogs were founded in 1989 by former homerunners players, among others.

The home runners are currently represented by three teams in the Austrian baseball leagues, the Vienna Metrostars play in the BLA ( Baseball League Austria ), the Vienna Mets in the RLO (Regional League East) and the Freudenau Mets in the LLO (Regional League East).

Since 1995, a women's fast pitch softball team has also been part of the club. The Vienna M-Stars play in the ASL ( Austrian Softball League - highest Austrian league). From the 2015 season, another team, the Freudenau M-Stars, was installed in the SBL ( Softball Bundesliga - second highest division).

In addition, junior teams in all age groups (juniors, youth, ponies, schoolchildren and children) are looked after under the name Vienna Lions , and cooperations with schools are maintained.
