The Tramway Murmansk ( Russian Мурманский трамвай , Murmanskij tramvaj ) was a narrow-gauge railway ( декавилька , Dekavil'ka for Decauville ) operated from 1918 to 1934 with benzene drive in Murmansk .

history

The narrow-gauge railway had a track width of 600 mm. It was built in 1918 by British Entente troops for military use by prisoners of war of the Red Army . The ten-kilometer route began at the port and the railway, led along Vorovskovo Street (улице Воровского) and over several trestle bridges on an almost five-kilometer arch around the city to the coal piers on the Cape (Зелёного мыса , Seljonowo myssa). Small British simplex benzene rail tractors without a driver's cab, tipping trucks and open and closed freight cars were used.

After the population revolted against the troops and the city was conquered by the Red Army, the railway was used for freight and passenger transport until it was replaced by a bus in 1934. The narrow-gauge railway has now been completely dismantled.
