TransMiCable

TransMiCable is the name of an infrastructure project that opened on December 29, 2018 in the Colombian capital Bogotá . A cable car right through the metropolis between the districts of Ciudad Bolívar in the extreme southwest and San Cristóbal in the southeast. After more than ten years of planning, it was started by Mayor Enrique Peñalosa . As a means of public transport, it is integrated into the existing and future transport network ( Bogotá Metro under construction) and will bring great relief for the city's residents and commuters.

The Austro - Helvetic company Doppelmayr / Garaventa Group was awarded the contract for the approx. 9.4 million euro cable car project. The contract was signed on July 16, 2015. The cable car - a detachable gondola lift - has already proven itself in La Paz , Bolivia . The same system is now in use in Bogotá.

In the first three months of operation between December 29, 2018 and March 31, 2019, the system mobilized 1,820,128 passengers and served an average demand of 21,000 passengers on working days, 19,500 on Saturdays and 17,500 on Sundays and public holidays. The 3.34 km long system has four stations with a forecast capacity of 3,600 passengers per hour and is connected to the TransMilenio public bus network. It is part of phase 4 of the integrated public transport system Sistema Integrado de Transporte de Bogotá (SITP) in the Colombian capital. After the ropeway system is completed, the responsibility lies with the SITP operator.

Each cabin has a capacity for ten passengers. Commuters can get into one of the cabins every ten seconds, which enables the transport of 3,600 passengers per hour and in each direction with the system's maximum capacity. Extensive green spaces and new public spaces around the up to three-story station buildings were created to improve the quality of life for thousands of people.

Lines of the initial project

Initially, TransMiCable will only consist of a 3.34 km long route in the south of Bogotá, the Ciudad Bolívar district.
