Transfer 21

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Transfer-21 is the follow-up project to the “21” program - Education for Sustainable Development of the Federal and State Commission for Educational Planning and Research Funding . The "21" program was launched in 1999 to develop and test model concepts in the sense of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) for school practice.

Transfer 21 is coordinated by the Educational Future Research Unit at the Free University of Berlin.

content

In order to promote the aim of ESD, the acquisition of design skills, three areas have been defined in which new forms of learning are tested and which are to be specifically promoted by the program:

  • Interdisciplinary learning
  • Participation in the local environment
  • Innovative structures in the school

Current

The BLK program “21” ran for five years and was funded by the federal and state governments with a total of 13 million euros. 15 federal states with a total of over 200 schools were involved. Transfer 21 then started in August 2004 and ran until July 2008.

Further goals of the follow-up program Transfer-21 are:

  • the expansion of the program by including 4,500 schools,
  • the expansion of permanent advisory and support structures,
  • extensive training for multipliers,
  • the expansion of the program to include elementary schools and all-day schools,
  • the integration of ESD in teacher training.

Practical offer

Transfer 21 offers:

  • Materials (workshop materials, films, information boxes, planning aids, suggestions, reports and evaluations of projects that have already been carried out),
  • Advice and training by multipliers who have two years of qualification, experience and a large network,
  • Transfer's coordination office and project manager mediate cooperation with cooperation partners and enable the exchange of experiences with other schools.

Materials / project proposals

The workshop materials and project proposals from Transfer 21 are based on the design skills to be promoted and the three above-mentioned areas of interdisciplinary learning, participation in the local environment and innovative structures in the school. The topics relevant to ESD are extremely varied, from customs and traditions in other countries to the biotope in their own community to the school-internal kiosk, in which organic snacks and fair trade are sold. Methods such as interdisciplinary project weeks, student companies , cooperation between schools and companies, parental participation or business games (e.g. simulated city council meetings) are becoming increasingly important with regard to the goals of ESD.
