Translation (Canon Law)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The translatio in Catholic canon law is the loss of a church office with the subsequent transfer of a new church office - i.e. the transfer of a clergyman to another church office.

The transfer takes place in two processes: The abandonment or withdrawal of the existing office is followed by the granting of the new office. The transfer becomes effective when the new office is taken over. A transfer can also take place against the will of the incumbent, but this requires a serious reason.
