Trapesiza

The fortress Trapezitsa ( Bulgarian Трапезица ) in Veliko Tarnovo is located on the same hill in the former capital of Bulgaria . It was the second most important castle of the Second Bulgarian Empire after Tsarevets . Trapezitsa was the spiritual center. According to some historians, this was the first palace of Ivan Assen I.

During the Roman period (1st to 5th century AD) the place was fortified. The Byzantines followed the Romans. Eighteen Bulgarian churches that were in use during the Second Bulgarian Empire were found on Trapezitsa .
