Katherine Kelly (born November 19, 1979 in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England) is a British actress , best known for her roles in Coronation Street , Mr. Selfridge , The Night Manager and Class .

Life

Kelly was born in Yorkshire. She grew up in Barnsley and Wakefield and attended Wakefield Girls' High School. In 1998 her father founded the Lamproom Theater in Barnsley. Kelly came into contact with acting at an early age. When Kelly was planning to go to university, her father showed her a brochure from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art . Kelly applied and completed her acting training there. After graduating, she played leading roles in theater productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company .

In 2006 Kelly was cast as Raquel Watts on Coronation Street . She played this role for nearly nine years. She has received several awards for her portrayal in the series.

Kelly, 2016, played the mother of a teenager with telekinetic powers in the miniseries Him . In the same year Kelly starred as DI Jodie Shackleton in six episodes of the television series Happy Valley - In a Small Town . On the show, she was able to speak with her Yorkshire accent, which she welcomed. At the end of the year the television series Class, starring Katherine Kelly in one of the leading roles, was shown in Great Britain. Kelly played a physics teacher.

Private life

Katherine Kelly has four siblings. She is married to the Australian Ryan Clar. The couple have two daughters. The family lives in London.
