The first and only season ran from October 22 to December 3, 2016 on BBC Three . In Germany, the series was from April 4, 2017 to May 30, 2017 on One .

prehistory

The series is set at the fictional Coal Hill School. In the first episode of Doctor Who from 1963, the same was visited by Susan Foreman, the doctor's granddaughter. The Doctor's first companions, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright, were teachers at the school. The school also appears again and again in the later course of the Doctor Who series. In the episode Remembrance of the Daleks , the seventh Doctor and his companion Ace investigate what happened at the school. Later, Clara Oswald, a companion of the eleventh and twelfth doctor , teaches there.

action

The doctor's many time travels have left their mark. So the walls of space and time have become thin, especially at Coal Hill School. Aliens and monsters from different worlds and universes try to break through and get to earth. It is not always possible for the doctor to be there. So it is up to the students and employees of the Coal Hill School to stop the monsters. In addition, the students have to struggle with their own problems, for example falling in love, dealing with their own sexuality, the pressure to succeed, the psychological problems of their parents or the loss of loved ones.

reception

Greg Coltman of Apple Magazine thinks the writers wrote good backstories for the characters that would explain their actions and decisions. In addition, the series shows a good mix of realism (due to the everyday worries of young people) and fantasy.

Gay Times praised the gay love story between the two main characters Charlie Smith and Mateusz Andrzejewski as well as the handsome male leading actors.

Dan Martin, author of The Guardian newspaper , says Patrick Ness created something completely new and exciting with the series. The series is alternately emo, traumatic and quirky.

Keith Andrew from Games Radar praises the series and says Class is the offshoot Torchwood would have liked to be. She managed to differentiate herself from her mother series Doctor Who and tell her own story.

Hypable's Karen Rought particularly praises the portrayal of Katherine Kelly .
