history

Obi @ otto was founded on October 1st, 2000 as a joint venture between OBI and Otto . OBI was faced with strong cutthroat competition in the DIY market in Germany and Otto had not previously worked on the DIY market as a strategic field. With their strengths, both complemented each other to form a partnership: Otto took over the company shares from Obi on October 1, 2006 and Obi @ otto became the DIY store direct.

Hagebau joined on March 1, 2007 as a strategic partner; In return, Baumarkt became a limited partner in Hagebau. From August 2011, the mobile shopping portal m.hagebau.de. Baumarkt offered the range for mobile devices.

In May 2012 the mobile sales channel of hagebau.de was expanded with an iPad app. At the beginning of March 2016, a separate warehouse was opened in Halle an der Saale in cooperation with the logistics service provider Hellmann . Baumarkt direkt published a smartphone app for iOS and Android in November 2016; The customer can shop or use the smartphone as a shopping helper in the hagebau store on site.

On July 1st, after almost eleven years of working together, Hagebau and Otto decided in 2019 to go their separate ways because the business models are now different. Otto pursues a platform strategy, Hagebau a cross-channel concept with 370 DIY stores plus online.

The online shops hagebau.de and werkerswelt.de are operated by the new company Hagebau Connect .
