Pedro Baquero

Pedro Baquero SDB (born September 15, 1970 in Manila ) is a Filipino religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Kerema in Papua New Guinea .

Life

Pedro Baquero joined the Order of the Salesians of Don Bosco in 1989 and made his first profession on April 1, 1990 . He studied philosophy at the Don Bosco College of Canlubang in the province of Laguna and Catholic theology at the Salesian College in Parañaque City . After his perpetual profession, he received the sacrament of ordination on December 8, 1999 in the Marian shrine Mary Help of Christians in Manila .

After ordination, he worked as pastor and headmaster in the Kerema diocese until 2010. He then headed the technical school in the Gabutu district in Port Moresby until 2013 . From 2014 to 2016 he was delegated superior and from 2016 Vice Provincial of the newly established Salesian Province for Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands .

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Kerema on January 20, 2017. He was ordained episcopal on March 25th of the same year by the Archbishop of Port Moresby , John Cardinal Ribat MSC . Co -consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio to Papua New Guinea, Archbishop Kurian Mathew Vayalunkal , and the Archbishop of Rabaul , Francesco Panfilo .
