Dream image 2

Traumbild 2 is a composition by Johann Strauss Sohn (without opus number). The date and place of the premiere are not known.

Remarks

Johann Strauss died on June 3, 1899. The numerous sketches for other projects also included two pieces that he described as dream images and musical aberrations . Around Christmas 1899 the two pieces were published as piano reductions. From dream 1 then an orchestral version appeared in print. Apparently Traumbild 2 was not printed in the orchestral version. We know from a letter from Johann Strauss to his brother Eduard , in which he also writes about the two dream images, that he musically portrayed his wife Adele Strauss in one of the two works (which is now called Traumbild 1 ). He described dream image 2 as more passionate . He also writes that he consciously did not follow any given musical form in the two Traumbild works. Traumbild 1 was premiered on January 21, 1900 in the concert hall of the Wienermusikverein on the occasion of a commemorative concert for Johann Strauss. It is not known whether, and if so when, dream image 2 was performed. The CD recording of Traumbild 2 mentioned below was arranged by Christian Pollack based on the difficult-to-read original handwriting of the composer.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 7 minutes and 9 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
