Traumtelefon or Traum Telefon (English original title: Electronic Dream Phone ) is a board and deduction game as well as an electronic toy by the game designer Michael Gray , which appeared in 1991 as a game for girls by the American toy company Milton Bradley Company . In 1993 it was also published in Germany by MB Spiele.

Theme and equipment

Thematically, Dream Phone is a game for girls that was about finding and meeting the right dream boy. The central element is a telephone that gives clues to the right boy. The game mechanics correspond to those of other deduction games such as the detective game Cluedo , in which the other players have to combine clues so that they lead to the correct result or, in this case, to the correct dream boy.

In addition to instructions, the game material consists of:

  • a telephone
  • 24 photo cards,
  • 12 special cards (listening in, hanging up, loudspeaker),
  • one block,
  • four information sheet holders,
  • a game board, and
  • a game mat

Style of play

To prepare for the game, each player receives a sheet of notepad and a holder in which they can place it, as well as one of the three special cards for listening, hanging up and loudspeaker, which are placed face up in front of the other players. The photo cards with the dream boys are shuffled and each player receives three of these cards, which are also laid out face up. The remaining cards are placed face down on the playing mat. A fellow player receives the electronic phone and presses "New game".

The starting player takes the phone and selects one of the three boys lying in front of her to call him. She dials the number on the card and receives a hint from the boy. She writes it down on her sheet of paper and compares it with the pictures on the game board. The used photo card is put down and the player receives a new card, after which she passes the phone on. The players who are currently not in turn can use one of their special cards once per game before voting. The first card played must be resolved. In this way, all players can listen in when the "Speak" button is pressed on the phone. With the card “Let someone overhear!” Only one player is allowed to overhear and gives the card to the active player. If “Mommy says hang up” is played, the active player has to sit out.

As soon as a player believes to have identified the dream boy, she can guess and presses the guess button on the phone and calls the dream boy.
