The Travel24.com AG is a tourism company that operates travel and aviation portals.

history

The company, founded in 1996, provides access to travel information and offers via the Internet and telephone. Travel24.com's portfolio includes tour operators, hotels and airlines. The company went public on March 15, 2000 and was initially listed on the Neuer Markt . The company's share is currently listed in the General Standard .

Already in mid-2002 the company was threatened with extinction, as equity had decreased from EUR 27 to 2.8 million due to ongoing losses, with liquid funds amounting to EUR 3.4 million. The accounts receivable from deliveries and services amounted to around 2.7 million euros, whereas there were liabilities of 5.4 million euros. The subsidiary aeroworld GmbH had to file for bankruptcy and was liquidated. As a result, Travel24.com's sales for the first half of 2002 fell from EUR 21 million to EUR 6.8 million. On January 1, 2003 Travel24.com was included in the Prime Standard .

In 2009, Travel24.com was bought by Unister GmbH and thus saved from bankruptcy. Unister held 78.76% of Travel24.com until October 2017. The aim in the first phase of a new portfolio is up to 25 budget design hotels in major German cities. In the first half of 2012, sales of 14 million euros and a surplus of 2 million euros were achieved. Reading the balance sheet, however, shows that various managers do not receive any compensation from the company directly.

In December 2012 Travel24.com started the renovation of the Ring-Messehaus in Leipzig, which had been vacant since 1994 , from which the first budget hotel with 170 rooms is to be built for 11.2 million euros. The renovation should be completed by the end of 2014, due to delayed construction, the opening finally took place in August 2017. Furthermore, the conversion of the former Gothaer high-rise in Cologne city center into a two-star hotel with 338 rooms was planned. This property has since been sold again.

In April 2017, the former Ring-Messehaus was sold to the Leipzig-based Vicus Group AG , which specializes in commercial real estate . The purchase price for the hotel was paid ahead of time in September 2017 before the official handover. This ensured the repayment of the corporate bond issued in 2012.
