Trees and Jamaica Daddy is an American animated short film directed by Lew Keller in 1958.

action

Trees : The girl Hattie sows seeds and a little later big trees have grown out of them. A winding bird first attracts two worms and later a cat. While hunting, the cat falls into the wagon the girl has put under the tree and races downhill with it. In the end, the cat and the car end up in the freshly dug up bed of a man who is not very happy about it.

Jamaica Daddy : Hamilton Ham and his band play a calypso and report on Jamaica Daddy and his extensive family tree.

Trees and Jamaica Daddy consists of the two self-contained segments Trees and Jamaica Daddy . Both segments bear the title of the song that is played during the film and determines the plot. The film was released on January 30, 1958 as the first part of the Ham and Hattie Theatrical Cartoon Series. Ham and Hattie do not appear together.

Awards

Trees and Jamaica Daddy was nominated for an Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film " in 1958 , but could not prevail against Birds Anonymous . It was the last Oscar nomination for a UPA cartoon.
