Propellant bag
Propellant bags are used in artillery technology to simplify the loading process of a gun . The propellant powder is portioned and sewn into rayon bags. The entire propellant charge is often further divided into several smaller bags. Each bag is filled with a defined amount of a certain type of powder with a certain grain structure (e.g. "noodles", sticks, five-hole sticks).
At the command of the fire control , the ammunition gunner removes individual cargo bags from the heaviest cargo if the maximum range is not required according to the firing board . The propellant charge bags to be fired are then either placed directly in the charge space of the gun behind the projectile or placed in cartridges .
Due to the strong heat and pressure generated during the shot, the propellant charge bags burn largely without residue.
