Tri-Cities (Tennessee)

As Tri-Cities is a region in the United States designated by the three towns Johnson City , Kingsport and Bristol in the state of Tennessee is defined. There are also other surrounding towns and cities in northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia .

Statistically, Tri-Cities represents a Combined Statistical Area according to the classification by the Office of Management and Budget , which bears the official name Johnson City-Kingsport-Bristol . It consists of two Metropolitan Statistical Areas (urban areas with at least 50,000 inhabitants): Johnson City, TN and Kingsport-Bristol- Bristol , TN-VA .

In 2000, the United States Census Bureau determined that the region had a population of 480,091. For 2008 there is an estimate of 500,538 inhabitants.
