Triangle Project

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Triangle Project is the largest LGBT organization in South Africa . It has its roots in the GASA 6010 movement founded in 1981 . In 1994 the Triangle Project completely separated from GASA 6010.

The project was the first organization in Africa to deal with AIDS assistance and prevention . She has been running a national telephone hotline since 1984 and has been producing literature on this topic independently since 1985.

Triangle also runs a gay and lesbian library, offers rooms for external gay and lesbian groups, organizes events (Day of Dialogue and Cape Town Pride ) and offers life coaching.

What is unusual in contrast to similar German organizations is that Triangle's headquarters are not in a gay and lesbian neighborhood, but in a large shopping center.

In 1996, Triangle developed a concept for counseling and support for black African homosexuals. This target group has the problem of further exclusion within its own environment and higher HIV infection rates. Part of the concept was the hiring of isiXhosa speaking street workers. Triangle has 12 full-time employees. Most of the services, however, are carried out by volunteers.

Triangle's seven-person honorary board includes: a. from Kenny Lawrence, Temba Kali, Ronnie Ngalo, Fernel Abrahams and Yvette Abrahams. Dawn Betteridge is the director.
