Tribunal de Grande Instance
The Tribunal de Grande Instance ( TGI for short ) is a civil court of first instance in France .
It is comparable to the German regional court , where disputes over € 10,000 are negotiated. There are 161 courts of this type in France, seven of which are in French overseas territories .
The courts employ two types of judges or officials:
- The Magistrats du siège or magistrats assis are comparable to judges in Germany. You take on the role of president and vice-president of the court as well as the administration of justice as an ordinary judge.
- The magistrats du parquet or magistrats debout act as the public prosecutor as a representative of the general interest.
