The funnel pen is a drawing device with which you can draw very evenly wide lines with Indian ink . It is a forerunner of the ink pen .

construction

It consists of a funnel-shaped metal container with a screw cap, from which the ink can flow through a small tube. For different line widths there is a nib with a tube with a corresponding outer diameter. In order for the ink to flow evenly, the tube contains a thin pen made of spring steel, which is movably supported by a compression spring. This allows blockages in the writing tube to be pushed outwards and wiped off. The pen then pulls the pen back into the tube so that it does not scratch the paper while writing.

use

The funnel nib only writes well if it is held vertically. For this reason it is held in place with a holder that clamps the funnel spring with two adjustable metal jaws. The funnel spring can be guided like a pencil using the rod-shaped holder.

The funnel nib is a forerunner of modern ink pens. The funnel nib was used to write on official cards with a script template and to make technical drawings . The width of the lines is prescribed here.
