The Triens is a Roman bronze coin .

Their value corresponded to the third part of the ace , i.e. four unciae .

The front (the obverse ) usually shows a Minerva head with a Corinthian helmet , the back (the lapel ) a prora and the words "ROMA". The value is shown on both sides in the form of dots. The unity is also handed down under the name Ternarius .

Errata

The term “Triens” is sometimes mistakenly used for a Roman gold coin , the tremissis (“third solidus ”) of the solidus .
