Triolin
Triolin is a plastic that was developed in Germany in the 1920s to replace the more expensive linoleum and was used as a floor covering.
Triolin consists mainly of nitrocellulose , fillers and gelatinizing agents that are applied to a fabric made of hemp fibers. Visually, Triolin can hardly be distinguished from linoleum. The high flammability and the development of new materials meant that the production of Triolin was soon discontinued.
Today, plastic is only important as a historical building material. So he was u. a. Used in the Dessau Bauhaus buildings, where it was decided to at least restore the triolin floor in Walter Gropius ' office.
