The Triple Nine Society (TNS) is an international association for the gifted . It was founded in 1978 by former members of the International Society for Philosophical Inquiry .
Conditions of joining
The Triple Nine Society accepts people who, in an IQ test recognized by psychologists, achieve an intelligence value that is higher than 99.9% of the general population. This corresponds to an IQ of 146 or more on the Wechsler scale used in Germany (statistical average 100, standard deviation 15). For comparison: Mensa , the largest and best-known association of gifted people, allows members who are more intelligent than 98% of the population (two standard deviations, IQ of at least 130). The Triple Nine Society is twenty times more selective than the cafeteria.
Members and Membership
At the beginning of February 2020 the Triple Nine Society had 1932 members from currently 50 countries; including around 140 from German-speaking countries.
TNS publishes its own magazine called Vidya , in which articles by members appear on various topics. The members organize annual meetings in the USA (ggg999) and Europe (egg999).
The Triple Nine Society is based on democratic principles and encourages the free expression of its members. The preamble to the TNS statutes states:
"The Triple Nine Society is committed to friendship, communication, the adventure of intellectual exploration, and a greater realization of individual potentials. It neither sanctions the imposition of one person's philosophy on another nor subscribes to any particular philosophy for its members. It will strive to avoid the insularity of mere exclusiveness. The guiding principle of the Society is democratic and collegial rather than hierarchical. The Society will remain open to innovation and evolution. "
“The Triple Nine Society is committed to friendship, communication, the adventure of spiritual exploration and the better realization of individual potentials. It neither supports the imposition of its own philosophies on other people, nor does it support its members' own worldview. She seeks to avoid narrow-mindedness through exclusivity. The underlying principle of the Triple Nine Society is democratic and collegial, not hierarchical. The Triple Nine Society will always be ready for innovations and further developments. "
