Dry liquor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DDGS ( Dried Distillers Grains with Solubles , DDGS) falls within a plant for the production of bioethanol on the basis of starchy cereals after drying of the Abprodukts vinasse on. After drying, the dry stillage can be pelletized. The storable feed produced in this way is known as DDGS.

Due to its high protein content of up to 30% in some cases and an advantageous energy content, DDGS is used as feed for farm animals, preferably dairy cows . In Germany , the DDGS is not yet widespread as a feed. Extensive practical experience from the USA , where the DDGS is used on a large scale, can be drawn on when using DDGS, especially when feeding to dairy cows . Worldwide, DDGS is the third most popular protein feed for farm animals after soy and rapeseed .

The price of the DDGS is € 125 / t (as of November 2006). Only small price changes are to be expected, since the supply increases with increasing bioethanol demand, but in return the DDGS imports decrease. At the same time, selling them can lower the costs of bioethanol production. Another way to reduce costs is to burn the DDGS in a connected biomass cogeneration plant .

ingredients

The ingredients can vary slightly depending on the quality of the grain. 1 kg DDGS at 90% dry matter contains approximately:

  • 65 g crude fiber
  • 60 g fat
