Drum paralysis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The drummers palsy refers to a constant flexed position of Daumenendgliedes by a spontaneous tear of the tendon of the extensor pollicis longus .

The causes of this rupture are mainly blunt wrist injuries (sprains, falls, radius fractures ), but it also occurs with chronic overload, especially in sculptors, blacksmiths, drummers and waiters. The tendon of the muscle must be replaced by another (preferably that of the extensor indicis muscle ), as otherwise the thumb distal phalanx remains in a troublesome flexor position due to the flexors of the thumb being pulled.
